longwood east cabin
a rural retreat, with a footprint of 40 square meters, the cabin has been structurally designed to be transportable, allowing it to be relocated.
a series of removable steel columns will support the buildings platform - a light touch.
the plan is open, with a sheer curtain separating the main sleeping space from the living/ kitchen space.
behind the kitchen, a compact bathroom, accessed from the short passage, used to access a small bunk room, with built in storage.
containing the necessities, and some luxuries, including everything it needs to be self contained - solar panels, batteries, water storage, and a incinerating toilet.
materially, the exterior of the building is clad in weathered steel for fire resistance and to blend into the landscape. corrugated galvanised steel is used as roofing - more suitable to collecting potable water.
internally, spotted gum timber and natural stone is used extensively.
